There was something wonderfully familiar about Charlie and Tom’s wedding day. Held at Charlie’s family home, the celebration felt less like an event created for a single day and more like a gathering that had grown naturally around the people they love. The garden was full of lovely colours, with yellow for the bridesmaids, lots of beautiful greenery and especially liked the pink blossoms that became one of the visual themes running through their film.
 
It was a day full of energy. There was dancing, incredible food, plenty of laughter and the kind of atmosphere that comes from putting a lot of people who genuinely love each other in the same place. Charlie brought an wonderful energy to it all and Tom seemed more than happy to be swept along with her.
 
But underneath all the icing, what stood out most was the two of them. They have an ease with one another that is difficult to manufacture. Even before the wedding, speaking with them, there was an obvious familiarity, the way they bounced off each other, laughed together and seemed completely comfortable being themselves.

Tom had apparently known very early on, within ten minutes of meeting Charlie, that he knew he was going to marry her. Later that evening, he even messaged his friend: “Holy sh*t, I might marry this girl.” Years later, he stood in front of her and told her “You are my world.” He spoke about how he could no longer imagine a life without her, about being best friends and about the freedom they have to be completely themselves together. That felt like the heart of the day.

The Very Thought of You seemed made for it. A song about living in a kind of daydream, about seeing the person you love everywhere. In flowers, in the stars, in the smallest moments of an ordinary day. And that is what the film became. A collection of those moments. Charlie and Tom laughing in the garden. Friends dancing late into the evening. Family gathered around the home that has already witnessed so much of Charlie’s life.

A colourful, joyful day but ultimately a film about something much simpler. Two people who found in each other a best friend, a home and a life they couldn't imagine without.
